Cellulite is a problem a lot of women have. In fact, it is estimated that at least eighty percent of women have it. It causes many of them to feel self conscious and embarrassed. Although there is no actual cure for it, there are cellulite exercises that can be done to help. Here is some more information on the problem and various cellulite exercises.
Cellulite is a change in skin that occurs in the majority of women after experiencing puberty. It appears as skin dimpling and is prevalent in the pelvic region. Other areas it mostly affects include the thighs and abdomen. These areas are more prone to it because they store more fat and connective tissues than other areas. Other than the areas that generally carry more weight, sometimes gender, race, fat distribution throughout the body, circulatory insufficiency, lymphatic insufficiency, and biotype make someone more prone to getting it in certain areas.
There are many causes that lead may lead to it, but they are not scientifically fully understood. Some causes might be a change in the metabolism and physiology of a person and their skin architecture. Sometimes the cause is an alteration in their connective tissue structure. Other causes may be hormonal factors and genetic factors. Microcirculatory factors, inflammation, and changes in the extracellular matrix are also thought to contribute to it.
Specifically, hormones are thought to be the main cause. The hormone estrogen, which is the dominant hormone in women, may both initiate the formation of cellulite and further develop it. Other hormones such as insulin, the thyroids, prolactin, noradrenaline, and catecholamine adrenaline are also thought to be contributors. If the cause is genetic, it is believed that certain polymorphisms in the angiotensin converting enzyme are responsible as well as the hypoxia inducible factor genes. A poor diet and too much stress can worsen the condition because they increase the levels of catecholamines which is a contributor.
There are numerous cellulite exercises people can do to lessen the appearance of it and reduce to amount of it to make the body firmer and more toned in those areas. Doing exercises that improve circulation, specifically in the back and the thighs that will tighten them are the most effective. An example is to kneel down onto the floor and aim your body forward. Your elbows should touch the floor and your body should be slightly arched. You back should be straight and then lift your legs and keep your back aligned straight. Then lift them higher and angle them to the floor. This will cause you to work your hamstrings.
Another cellulite exercise to try is to get onto the floor on your stomach. Then bend your elbows and put your head onto your arms. Both hips should be touching the floor. With the hips touching the floor still, lift your leg slowly and hold the position. Do this for at least four repetitions and then lower your leg. After, do this six to eight more times. For the best results, this routine should be done twice.
Another one to try is to sit in a sturdy chair that does not move, meaning it does not have wheels. At a ninety degree angle, bend the knees and then rest your feet onto the floor. Take a pillow and place it between the thighs and squeeze it and then exhale. Squeezing it as hard as you can will work the thighs. Try to squeeze for at least one minute at a time to work the inner thighs more.
Also, a cellulite exercise to work the outer thighs and hips, use a chair and put your palms onto the outside of the knees. Then push the knees out against the palms like you are trying to push something heavy. While doing this, your palms and the rest of your arms should be still. Then use your hands to press inward and hold the position for at least one minute and breathe.
You can also use a chair and rest your hands on the chair at each of your sides. Then lift your leg and extend it and exhale. Hold this position for a minimum of thirty seconds and breathe. Then lower the leg and inhale. Repeat this process for the other leg as well. Remember to breathe in a normal manner all the while and to do them for at least half a minute each. These are beneficial for the front of the thighs.
